GeneSat-1 launched
A new amateur radio satellite has been launched into space. GeneSat-1 will conduct a cellular biology technology demonstration. Of particular interest to radio amateurs is the satellite’s beacon. Operating at 437.067MHz FM, the beacon sends an AX.25 packet at 1,200 baud every five seconds. The packet contains data about the spacecraft systems operation. Due to Doppler shift, the beacon frequency will vary +/- 9 kHz during a pass. Details can be found at www.crestnrp.org/genesat1/ahc.html. [RSGB]
